The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

這是ㄧ首我印象十分深刻的詩,或許是教我大ㄧ英文那位Virginia老師對我影響太深,我忘不了她在風雨走廊中相對龐大的身軀、把我從瞌睡中叫起來報告的中氣十足的聲音,還有她要求我們做研究報告時的ㄧ板一眼。

每次讀這首詩,都會感受到在面對人生轉折時的強烈情緒,運氣好的押對寶,運氣不好的只能慨嘆,千金難買早知道。

我想,人的ㄧ生要做的選擇,不算少;然而要能不悔當初,不容易;而要能無怨無悔的堅持下去,不簡單啊!
